You may have heard of blurred lips which is a makeup trend that is taking over the red carpet right now. But soon, we’ll all be obsessed with blurred nails.
That’s right: everyone’s love for lips that look like they’ve just been kissed and are naturally classy is coming to the manicure world. Nail artist Mateja Novakovic tells Glamour that in 2026 beauty is all about looking effortless and being comfortable. People are turning down anything that looks too engineered after years of HD and filter-level glam. Nails are also getting that soft look, just like makeup with skin blur and second-skin finishes.
But what do blurred nails really mean? Read on to learn about the new beauty trend and how to get the look yourself from Novakovic.
What do blurred nails look like?
Blurred nails are a new way to wear matte nails. They are a mix of a simple manicure and nail care. The blurred manicure is like the Paris filter we use on our Instagram Stories. It makes flaws look less obvious and gives you a soft velvety finish.
Matte finishes may not be for everyone, but think of this as a blanket for your nails that gently cares for them and gives them a nice soft-filter look. The nail artist says, We’ve seen matte nail trends before, but they never lasted. In the past, they made nails look flat and boring. Because it isn’t 100 percent matte, the blurred mani has made this trend more popular and easier to wear.
How to get your nails ready for blurry nails
To get a perfect filter finish with such a simple look, you need to do a lot of prep work. Before putting on polish, Novakovic says to gently push back the cuticles, lightly smooth the nail surface, and clean the nail plate to make sure the base is even and clean. Use cuticle oil or hand cream to always keep the hands hydrated.
How to make your nails look blurry
After she’s done getting ready, Novakovic finishes her blurred nails with two thin coats of Manucurist Active Blur. She says, You can build the finish up from one layer to the next, depending on how sheer or perfect you want it. Another great option for getting blurred nails is Orly Nail Retouch Smooth + Blur. If you don’t like a completely matte finish, she suggests adding other Manucurist Active treatments like Active Bright or Active Plump on top to give it a little shine.
Novakovic says that nail care is very important for this look because everything shows with such a soft natural finish. You are also giving your nails the care they need. It has niacinamide which boosts keratin and collagen, chestnut extract which strengthens your nail plate and resurfacing AHAs, which exfoliate.
What does the future hold for the blurred manicure? It is sure to be one of the biggest minimal manicure trends of 2026. I hope the trend will spread to other colors that are similar, like milky whites and beiges, soft lavenders and a subtle micro-iridescent sheen under the velvety finish. I also think it would look great with a micro French tip under the soft finish.
