In my opinion, winter-to-spring transition nails are some of the hardest to get right. It’s not “spring” spring yet, even though we’re out of the depths of winter and looking forward to longer days and warmer weather. I’m still wearing my winter coat, for example. As we move from the colder months to the first days of spring, it can be hard to choose what nail colors and styles to get at the salon.
You see, I’m getting tired of the dark and moody colors I wear on my nails in the winter. I want to try something a little more spring-like right now that still feels like it’s the right time of year. But those bright summer and spring nail colors just seem like too much right now.
So, I’ve decided to go on a beauty editor quest to find the best nail colors and nail art for this time of year. After going through my feeds for hours, I’ve saved some of the most stylish nail designs that I want to try next. You will too! For all the ideas for your winter-to-spring mani and the nail polishes you can use to get the look at home, scroll down.

1. Blush that is see-through
A short, bright pink manicure that is see-through
A sheer pink nail color is always a stylish choice when you’re not sure what to do (and let’s be honest, you’ll never regret going with this color). But why not use a brighter pink to welcome spring? Manucurist’s Active Glow nail polishes give your nails a nice fruity wash of color and make them look healthy and shiny right away. This is great if you want to try a brighter color without having your nails be completely opaque pink.

- Essie Nail Art Studio Polish in Slushy Sun £9
- Nails Inc Nail Perfector in Glowing Out £9
2. Blue Mist
A short manicure in pastel blue
Pastel nails are great for spring, but if they seem too bright for now, you could try a more muted version of the color. The grey undertones in this pastel blue make it feel more laid-back but it’s still a brighter change from the blue and navy nails that are more wintery.
- Manucurist Nail Polish in Mist Grey £14
- Chanel Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour in Muse £30
- H&M Vegan Natural Nail Polish Piece of Simplicity £6
3. Lilac Milk
a clear milky lilac manicure
Milky manicures are still very popular, but lilac milk nails are a great color to wear from winter to spring. Adding a little lavender to your wintery milky manicure will make it look like spring, but it will still be classy and stylish. Choose sheer, milky nail colors that let your natural nails show through.

4. Celadon
nails that are a soft green color
I love the bright matcha manis that come out in the spring and summer, but if you want a more muted color for the rest of the month, why not try muted greens instead? Celadon lets you dip your toe into spring greens while still feeling a little like winter. It’s a color that no one would expect, and it will make your nails stand out.
- Manucurist Nail Polish in Sage £14
- Chanel Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour Cavalier Seul £30
- Essie Original Nail Polish Caught Under the Rain £9
5. Twist in French
A short French manicure with green tips on the ends
I’m saving the bright and colorful French tips for my summer nail art, but for now, I like to add a little color to my tips to get them ready for spring. I really like this olive green French, which will last me until spring and beyond.
- OPI Nail Lacquer Bubble Bath £16
- Essie Nail Polish Win Me Over £9
- Manucurist Dotting Tool and Nail Art Liner Brush Duo £29
6. Apricot Gloss
Nails that are short and peachy in color
I’ve been seeing these pretty apricot gloss nails all over my feeds as spring starts to come in. As we say goodbye to winter and welcome in the sunnier days ahead, peachy tones are a great alternative to pink. They make your nails look more like spring. This semi-sheer high-shine finish is so pretty! It’s a quick way to make your nails look bright and healthy.
- Manucurist Active Smooth Nail Polish 02 £16
- Westmoreland Cosmetics Glass Polish Vanilla Gloss 3 £16
- Barry M Air Breathable Nail Paint Pastel Peach Soda £4
I know I’ll want to wear this sheer apricot polish all the way through spring season.
