The ‘kicktail bob’ is spring’s most elegant haircut – it’s versatile, low-maintenance and adds volume

kicktail bob' is spring's most elegant

As someone who has fine hair (thanks a lot, God), my only goal has always been to make it look thicker. Goal: “That’s why her hair is so big.” “It’s full of secrets,” said Damian Leigh in Mean Girls (2004). Thanks to the newest spring hair trend, I can now reach my goal. Please take the stand, kicktail bob hairstyle.

Sassoon is where famous hairdressing styles came from

Sassoon hair designers are some of the best in the world. We listened when Mark Hayes the brand’s Senior International Creative Director, told us that the kicktail bob would be a big trend for spring 2026.

Mark says, “The kicktail bob has a timeless line with a voluminous silhouette,” thanks to Vidal Sassoon. You could even say that the style is a more advanced version of the “cloud bob” because it gives you the volume and shape you want without making you feel heavy. Mark goes on to say that a small square line is cut first, and then the lengths inside are softened to give the hair a light texture effect. This is great for making fine hair look thicker.

When spring comes, short hair sounds like a great idea. Less weight, less work, and more shape. So, since the kicktail bob has all three, it’s the best cut for the season.

Mark says to take your time and be careful

when styling the kicktail bob. To bend hair evenly and flip the ends out, use a flat brush and the wrap-dry method. He says that a conditioning base or lightweight mousse can be added to help with control and shine. The end result is a polished bob that can be worn and feels like it’s been sculpted but is still easy to wear.
